If you are considering practicing nursing in Canada you will be required to gain a Canadian nursing license. The process of getting a Canadian nursing license is a little bit different than that of any other country. Here is a look at what you need to do to get a Canadian license and then what is required to renew the license.
To Get a Canadian Nursing License
Register with the nursing organization in the Providence of Choice. When you wish to get a Canadian nursing license you will have to choose what area of Canada you wish to work in. When you have decided you will apply with the nursing organization you will need to pay a fee and show a number of specific items.
Items that will be required to be shown to the nursing organization include education and schooling in the area of nursing, any language requirements that are needed for the providence (some providences require that you speak English and French or English only) and a criminal background will be run.
Take the Registered Nursing Exam. The Canadian Registered Nursing Exam can only be taken after you have registered with the nursing organization. This exam must be passed in order to get your nursing license.
What Is Required to Renew Your Nursing License
After you have achieved your nursing license in Canada you will be required to renew the license every year as long as you wish to work as a nurse. The renewal comes with a fee that must be paid to the nursing organization and few other requirements.
The requirements include having worked a minimum of hours as a nurse within the past five years, showing that you maintain the basic knowledge of a nurse over the year and a check to ensure that there are no complaints or active complaints against you as a nurse. After you have been checked of these items your license is renewed for another year.
